How to Choose an Online Quran Teacher for Your Child

By the Online Quranic Study team ·

Choosing a Quran teacher for your child is a big decision. Online lessons give you far more choice than the teachers within driving distance, but that also makes it harder to know who is right. This checklist covers what to look for and the questions worth asking before you commit.

1. One-to-one or group?

In a one-to-one class, the teacher hears every letter your child reads and corrects it immediately. In a group, each child gets only a share of that attention. For beginners and children learning pronunciation, individual attention makes a real difference.

2. Can the teacher explain clearly in your child's language?

If your child is growing up in an English-speaking country, a teacher who explains in fluent English helps them understand why a correction matters, not just that it was wrong.

3. Is the teacher patient with children?

Teaching young children is a different skill from teaching adults. Look for short, varied lessons, encouragement and calm correction. A trial class is the best way to see this.

4. Male or female teacher?

Many families, especially those with daughters or very young children, prefer a female teacher. Check whether that option is available, and whether it costs extra.

5. How will you see progress?

Ask how the teacher records what was covered and what comes next. Regular progress reports or a learning portal mean you're not left guessing.

6. Does the schedule actually work?

A great teacher at an impossible time won't help. Check that classes can happen at a regular time your family can keep, in your own time zone.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Are classes one-to-one?
  • How long are lessons, and how many per week?
  • Can I choose a male or female teacher?
  • How do you confirm class times across time zones?
  • How will I know how my child is doing?
  • Is there a free trial?

How to judge a trial class

Sit in if you can. Notice whether the teacher corrects mistakes gently and clearly, whether your child is talking and reading for most of the class (rather than mostly listening), and whether you leave with a clear sense of your child's level and next steps.

Our online Quran classes for kids are one-to-one, with male and female tutors and a free 3-day trial, so you can judge for yourself.
